Marking its golden jubilee this year, Sholay was a landmark film in mainstream Hindi cinema. This screening is even more poignant due to the very recent death of its lead actor, Dharmendra. As such this screening will be dedicated to his memory.

This remastered director’s cut is the hard work of many including Shehzad Sippy, nephew of director Ramesh Sippy; the ever enterprising and lover of film, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur (founder of The Film Heritage Foundation); and the technical expertise of those at L’Immagine Ritrovata. It captures well the thesis underpinning the World Cinema Spotlights series, namely, the cultural phenomenon that is cinema is and was, always-already-global.
We are very excited to host the second screening of Sholay in London in its Jubilee year, following its world re-release on 12 December. Read more about it here
